The Matt Savage Trio

Concerts at Deertrees Theatre

Matthew performed with The Matt Savage Trio, his professional ensemble, at
the Deertrees Theatre in Harrison, ME on August 19th, 2001.

 The Trio is
made up of Matthew on piano, John Funkhouser on bass, and Steve Silverstein
on drums.

The Matt Savage Trio performed two concerts at Deertrees, one at 2:00 P.M. and
one at 7:00 P.M.  Both performances were great successes and drew VERY
large crowds.  The theatre holds 320 people, and we filled about
two-thirds of the theatre at each show, with a few more people at the
evening show.  This is an amazing feat, since one of the concerts was a
Sunday afternoon performance on a beautiful sunny day.  We had been told
we would be lucky to get 50 people to attend.  Guess we proved them
wrong! We had people drive all the way from Portland, some from New
Hampshire, some from Brunswick.  The person who drove the
farthest to attend one of the concerts drove an hour and forty-five
minutes.  That’s dedication!

The Deertrees performances were the first time the trio performed some
of Matthew’s original music. The big hits, judging from the amount of
applause were “Nonstop Bebop”, “Summer Fever”, “Rebecca’s Waltz”, and
“All Jazzed Up”.  The trio received multiple standing ovations.

And Matthew received his first concert review!  You can read it here.  It
is the Bridgton News article dated Thursday, August 23, 2001.  It was a wonderful review.

The audience was filled with wonderful, caring people and lots of
children.  It was the most warm, encouraging, fun-loving audience and
venue we have ever enjoyed.  The evening concert drew a more musically
sophisticated crowd, and still the atmosphere was open, accepting, and
enthusiastic.  It seemed to us to be the perfect blend of wonderful
people and beautiful venue.  Matthew, John, and Steve sensed it
too.  They played their hearts out and looked like they were having a
fantastic time.

For those of you who missed the concerts, we had both Deertrees shows professionally recorded and the resulting CD is called All Jazzed Up”  and is absolutely wonderful.  You can order it online or by mail.
