The Center for the Arts, Natick MA

October 14, 2001

As you know by now, Matthew and The Matt Savage Trio performed a concert at The Center for the Arts in Natick, MA this past Sunday night.  What you may not know is that the Trio actually performed TWO concerts.

The group was scheduled to perform at 7:30 P.M.  However, the tickets for the concert were mostly sold out well in advance of any publicity.  And then The Boston Globe came out with a wonderful article about Matthew.  The Center for the Arts had so many people calling for tickets that they called and asked if the Trio could do a second show.

Well, as usual, Matthew was up for it, so the Trio performed a 6:00 concert before the 7:30 show.  The 6:00 show wasn’t even advertised, and it was a sellout too, just from the folks who couldn’t get tickets for the 7:30 show.  Even more people were turned away from the 7:30 show at the door.  We are sorry we couldn’t accommodate all of Matthew’s fans.  According to Michael Moran, the Director at TCAN, the Trio broke all records for attendance at the Center...twice.

The music was awesome, and the connection among the three musicians was electric.  Each show had its once-in-a-lifetime moments, but there were so many of them I can’t choose one to tell you about.  I think maybe the Trio’s perfect rendition of Dizzy Gillespie’s “A Night in Tunisia” was one of the most amazing.  They had never played it together before, and yet it was unreal!!!!

The crowd at both concerts gave standing ovations, and loved Matthew’s original pieces.  I think as his Mom, I was most proud of his stage presence and song announcements.  He even told a few jokes and stories about his songs.  He was great.  And he had so much fun.

Anyway, we thank The Center of the Arts in Natick for taking all the chaos in stride and we thank all the wonderful people who attended the concerts and supported and encouraged our young musician.  It was a magical evening for everyone.
